About Pocket Giraffe

Welcome to Pocket Giraffe.  I am Kate, a crafter who happens to be registered as blind.  It took me a very long time to pluck up the courage to try my hand at crafts, assuming that they were just something I could never do.  I am quickly becoming very enamoured with all sorts of crafts.

The name Pocket Giraffe cam about after my husband (who LOVES giraffe) was given a small stuffed toy giraffe by me as a gift.  He then carried it with him wherever he went, in his coat’s inner pocket.  It became somewhat of a good luck talisman in our household.  He even had his Pocket Giraffe in his inner pocket on our wedding day.  It is why I chose that name for this blog.  I’m hoping it brings with it the same good luck that the ‘in person’ Pocket Giraffe has.

The main focus of this blog is to document my travels through the world of craft.  More specifically, card making.  It is something I have always wanted to master.  It is however not something that is an automatic first-choice option for someone with a severe visual loss.  So, my general idea is to try and create a blog that is informative, sharing both the good and bad attempts at ‘adapting’ the techniques I see on places such as YouTube, or generally through a Google search.  I hope that someone is able to get a few ideas on how they might best approach a craft they though inaccessible to them (for whatever reason), and I hope to have a lot of fun.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
